The Poetry of Concrete in Contemporary Religious Architecture:Engraving the Impression of Zen Aesthetics
In contemporary religious architectural design, for environmental, regulatory, and economic reasons, modern architectural materials, reinforced concrete, have gradually replaced traditional wood, brick, and stone, making it impossible to imitate ancient design strategies.Instead, through a design approach that conforms to Zen aesthetics, concrete can be shaped to create a Zen atmosphere, thus enabling an ethereal and subtle spiritual experience in religious architecture. This paper summarizes a series of contemporary religious architectural design methods that connotes Zen aesthetics through case studies of several contemporary religious architectures.
