A Preliminary Exploration on the Form Features and Cultural Connotations of Shuikou Towers in Bashu Area
Many traditional settlements were built and developed upon rivers in Bashu Area,and ancient towers were often found next to the entrance or exit of such a river.Although differed in forms,structures and names,each of them has become the important landmark of local cultural landscape without exceptions.Based on extensive mining and sorting of historical literature and documents,the background of the emergence of Shuikou tower is reviewed in this paper.Furthermore,through on-site investigations of some representative towers,basic features regarding their forms and structures,as well as their rich cultural connotations are discussed and summarized,which helps to disclose its important cultural landscape meaning within the contemporary urban and rural cultural heritage protection.
