On the Construction of Ancient Capitals based on the Relationship Between Humanistic Tradition and Spatial Characteristics:Taking Dongjing(Kaifeng)City in the Northern Song Dynasty as an Example
The paper analyzes the spatial hierarchy and order of ancient Chinese capitals from the correlation between humanistic traditions and spatial characteristics,aiming to provide new perspectives for current urban planning and design in terms of preservation,planning,and research.The study shows that the urban space of Dongjing(Kaifeng)City in the Northern Song Dynasty shifted from closed to open.Considering the construction of the Chinese ancient capital and the natural environment as a whole,on the basis of meeting the needs and demands of all social classes,the capital built a spatial hierarchical order of"Imperial City,Inner City and Politics","Outer City and Multi-dimensional Complex",and"Circumferential View and Ecology",so as to realize the fusion of humanities,space,and nature.The study reveals that contemporary urban development should explore and translate the modern meanings and expressions of the traditional connotations of ancient capital city building.
