This paper explores the decorative art thought of Xi Xiaopeng,the father of interior design in New China,and provides theoretical reference for environmental art design education.Through a large number of relevant literature reading and case analysis,this paper briefly reviews Xi Xiaopeng's artistic life experience,and analyzes and summarizes the three characteristics of Xi Xiaopeng's architectural decorative art thought:"dialectical inheritance,reform of the old and the new","emphasis on function and beauty","democratic design and practice-oriented".Xi Xiaopeng inherited the traditional culture dialectically,paid attention to the functionality while controlling the aesthetic degree of decoration,insisted on the combination of theory and practice,advocated collaborative innovation,and made outstanding contributions to the development of China's architectural decoration.
