The Evolution of Concepts for the Protection and Reuse of Industrial Heritage in Nanjing
The essence of industrial heritage preservation is to maintain and shape a set of values embodied in the heritage. The expression and evaluation of values is the reference of any preservation action decision, which provides answers to what to preserve and why to preserve. However, values are neither static nor objective, they are rooted in cultural and social relations, embodied in specific preservation policies and regulations. For industrial heritage, not all cities share common values, nor do the participants in preservation practices. At present, most of the studies on the reuse of Nanjing industrial heritage focus on specific engineering objects, lacking attention to the evolution of preservation concepts.By combing the relevant government policies, laws and regulations, this study explores the origin and basis of Nanjing's industrial heritage preservation and reuse practice, which is very important for the improvement and optimization of the following preservation and reuse work.
