Urban development is an economic platform that should provide a"cash flow"for urban renewal. The dilapidation and fragmentation of property rights have made Beijing's quadrangle courtyards into atypical quadrangle courtyards, with the living environment gradually deteriorating, serious idle and decaying phenomena. In recent years, the policy of old city protection and renovation has encouraged the activation of using historical buildings in a modern way, advocating the transformation of buildings that are not suitable for living into other public and commercial spaces. The paper selects No.70 North Pool Street as a case study, studying how atypical quadrangle courtyards can be transformed into commercial spaces while preserving their traditional appearance, focusing on commercial positioning, continuation of appearance, and reshaping of space, exploring the integration of traditional architecture and modern development needs,in order to explore the feasibility and practicality of commercial renovation in guiding the protection and renewal of traditional buildings.
