The Predictive and Evaluative Value of NLR and NHR on the Severity and Progression of Parkinson's Disease
Objective To explore the predictive value of the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and the neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein ratio(NHR)in the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease(PD)and their application in assessing the severity and pro-gression of the disease. Methods A total of 84 PD patients diagnosed at the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinzhou Medical University be-tween March 2022 and November 2023 were selected as the PD group, with another 94 healthy individuals undergoing physical exami-nations in the same period serving as the control group.Basic information and biochemical indicators were compared between the two groups.According to the Hoehn-Yahr staging criteria, the PD group was divided into an early-stage PD group(56 cases)and a mid-to-late-stage PD group(28 cases)for comparison of basic information and biochemical indicators.Based on the duration of the dis-ease,the PD group was categorized into a<6 years group(44 cases)and a≥6 years group(40 cases)for comparative analysis of related data.Multifactorial logistic regression analysis was utilized to analyze the risk factors for PD occurrence;the ROC curve was used to evaluate the predictive value of NLR and NHR in PD diagnosis;Spearman's analysis was employed to examine the correlations among the indicators. Results There were statistically significant differences in NLR and NHR levels between the PD and control groups(P<0.05).Multifactorial regression analysis revealed that NLR(P=0.003,OR=1.710>1)and NHR(P=0.006,OR=1.481>1)are risk factors for PD.ROC curve analysis indicated that the AUC for NLR was 0.7032,with an optimal threshold of 1.72,and the AUC for NHR was 0.6646,with an optimal threshold of 2.79.Spearman's correlation analysis suggested that NHR is negatively correlated with the duration of PD(r=-0.325,P=0.003)and positively correlated with the severity of the condition(r=0.220,P=0.044),whereas NLR showed no correlation with either the severity or the duration of the disease. Conclusion NLR and NHR are independent risk factors for PD and can serve as effective indicators for predicting the occurrence of PD.Furthermore,NHR can,to some extent, reflect the duration and severity of PD.
