A Comparison on the Meaning in Life Among Visually-impaired College Students,Hearing-impaired College Students and Non-disabled College Students
Objective By comparing the meaning in life among visually-impaired college students,hearing-impaired college students and non-disabled college students,this study aims to explore the differences in acquiring and maintaining meaning in life between disabled college students and non-disabled college students.Methods 345 college students with visual impairment,535 college students with hearing impairment and 620 non-disabled college students were tested with the Meaning in Life Questionnaire.Results In the two sub-dimensions of sense of meaning in life and sense of having meaning and sense of seeking meaning,the scores of non-disabled college students were higher than those of visually impaired college students and hearing-impaired college students(P<0.001),and there were also differences between the two types of disabled students.The sense of life meaning of hearing-impaired college students was better than that of visually impaired college students[(4.76±0.87)scores and(4.53±0.99)scores,P<0.001].Conclusion The meaning in life of disabled college students is generally lower than that of non-disabled college students,and there are differences in the meaning of life among students with different types of disabilities.
