Overview of global cholera epidemic in 2022(Selected Translation)
In 2022,the number of cholera cases notified to the World Health Organization(472,697 cases)doubled from 2021(22,370 cases).44 countries worldwide have reported cholera cases,an increase from 35 in 2021.The number of cholera cases has increased due to the displacement of people caused by conflict,climate change,limited development investment,and emerging and re emerging vulnerabilities.The World Health Organiza-tion recommends that member states strengthen their capacity for early detection,monitoring,early warning,diagno-sis,data collection,compilation and analysis at the local level,encourage countries adjacent to cholera endemic ar-eas to strengthen disease surveillance and preparedness at the national level,and provide travelers and communities with information about potential cholera risks,symptoms,preventive measures,when and where cases are reported,and where to receive treatment if necessary.
