The biological characteristics of Bhutanitis yulongensis Chou
The morphological characteristics, life habits and life cycle of the rare and endangered endemic Chinese butterfly, Bhutanitis yulongensis Chou are described. B. Yulongensis has one generation each year and overwinters as diapause pupae at Yulong Snow Mountain, Yunnan Province. Under artificial, indoor conditions adults occurred in the middle of April, but emerged in the beginning of May in the field. The larval stage has five instars and feeds on the leaves of Arislvlochia moupinensis( Aristolochiaceae ) .
