The Zero Degree and the Positive Deviation:A Probe into Korman's English Translation of Gesar
The English version of the epic Gesar translated by Korman is the first English version from the Zang language in the true sense, which is of milestone value.Grounded in the theory of the zero devi-ation,this paper systematically examines the zero degree and deviation in the physical,linguistic,psy-chological,and cultural realms in Korman's translation of Gesar. The study identifies the benchmarks and variations in the"four worlds,"observing that the translator accurately and fluently conveys the pur-pose and information of the translation to the target language reader. The theory of zero deviation effec-tively guides the translator's work, yielding positive outcomes for epic translation. It hopes that the re-search will help improve the quality of the translation, provide a theoretical paradigm for the translation of China's rich ethnic epics, and ultimately promote the better spread of China's ethnic minority culture o-verseas.
