Impact of Government Audit on Entry of Regional Firms
Based on balanced panel data at the provincial level and data of newly registered firms in China from 2005 to 2019,this paper studies the impact of government audit on the entry of regional firms and its spatial spillover effects. The main research conclusions are as follows:Firstly, the effective implementation of government audit signifi-cantly promotes the entry of regional firms, and this effect is mainly achieved through the critical role of government audit, which has been verified through robustness tests.Secondly, the degree of marketization has a positive modera-ting effect on the relationship between government audit and the entry of regional firms, that is,with the increase of marketization degree, the promotion effect of government audit on regional firm entry is enhanced.Thirdly, the impact of government audit on the entry of regional firms exhibits a positive spatial spillover effect, indicating that the effec-tive implementation of government audit can not only promote the entry of local firms, but also significantly facilitate the entry of firms in surrounding regions and effectively alleviate the"siphon effect"of firms'entry among regions.Based on the above research conclusions, policy recommendations are proposed from several aspects, including em-phasizing the effective implementation of the governance function of government audit, accelerating regional marketiza-tion process and improving the inter-regional audit synergy mechanism.
