General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized at the symposium on boosting the development of the western region in the new era that it is necessary to adhere to the principle of promoting great development through greater o-pening up,and to raise the level of opening-up of the western region internally and externally.Focusing on the re-gional coordinated development strategy of"promoting great development through greater opening-up",this paper historically and synchronically summarizes the economic phenomena of the great western development from three as-pects:policy supply, economic and social development needs, and territorial spatial layout. It is believed that on the new journey of fully building a modern socialist country, the western region has the feasibility and necessity to acceler-ate the formation of the strategy of"promoting development through greater opening-up".The research finds that from"the greater western development"to"advancing the great western development in the new era to form a new layout"and then to"promoting great western development through greater opening-up in the new era",different pe-riods of time and different driving forces have shaped and defined the strategy of"promoting great development through greater opening-up",which is a practical need for regional coordinated development strategy,a value orientation for addressing the imbalance in the development of social productive forces,an action guide for Chinese modernization, and an initiative to actively participate in and promote economic globalization. The development mission of"promoting great development through greater opening-up"has strengthened the development momentum and foundational sup-port of the western region, its development orientation has expanded the responsibility and development value of the western region, and its development vision has empowered the western region's positional attributes and territorial characteristics.
