Research on the Influence of Population Mobility on Urban Innovation from the Perspective of"Local-Neighboring Areas"
Based on the panel data of 284 Chinese cities at prefecture level and above, this paper empirically an-alyzes the impact of population mobility on the innovation level of"local-neighboring areas"by constructing spatial Dubin model. The study finds that population inflow is conducive to the development of local innovation, and the pro-motion effects of population inflow on the level of local innovation is stronger in third-tier cities and lower-tier cities, with the weakest effects in first-tier cities. The spillover effect of local population mobility is greater than the siphon effect on the area within 300 km radius, the siphon effect is greater than the spillover effect in the area within 300~400 km radius, and the impact on the area more than 400 km radius is not significant. The spillover effect of popula-tion inflow on the innovation level of cities with similar local economic development level and human capital level as well as similar industrial structure is greater than the siphon effect. The higher the level of economic development, the stronger the spillover effect.Network infrastructure can moderate the"local-neighboring areas"innovation effect of population mobility,it can help to overcome the obstacles of geographical despotism to spatial knowledge spillover and reduce the siphon effect of population movement on innovation levels in other regions, which is not limited by spatial distance. Therefore, the paper puts forward some suggestions on how to enhance the spillover effect of population in-flow and how to leverage quantity and quality dividends of population"according to local conditions".
