In 2022,the Shaanxi Academy of Archaeology excavated a mural tomb of the Late Tang Dynasty located to the south of Baiyangzhai Village in the Chan-ba Ecological Zone,Xi'an.While the tomb has been severely damaged, its murals are well preserved, providing rich, colorful and distinctive contents for archaeological study.According to previously known information, the tomb is located in the cemetery of the Liu Honggui's family.Based on the shape and location of the tomb,it can be surmised that the owner of the tomb should be a second-generation member of Liu Honggui's family, probably Liu Xingshen or his wife;the former was a powerful eunuch in the Late Tang Dynasty. This burial is the only tomb of Liu Honggui's descendants found from archaeological excavations, which provides important information for the study of the layout of family cemeteries in the Late Tang Dynasty. The exquisite murals unearthed are rarely seen among Tang-Dynasty tombs that have been found in recent years, and are of great significance for the study of the thematic and stylistic changes of murals during the Tang and Song Dynasties.
