Wei Xuan was the son of the prime minister Wei Zhiyi during the reign of Emperor Shunzong of the Middle Tang Dynasty.He was also the son-in-law of the famous litterateur and poet Yuan Zhen.Wei Xuan's literary sketches such as'Liu Binke Jia Hua'and'Rongmu Xiantan'have been transmitted until present-day.However,due to the lack of historical records,there are many controversies in the related studies on Wei Xuan.The discovery of Wei Xuan's epitaph provides first-hand information for the study of his family lineage,social communication,official career and literary creation.This new unearthed material also reflects the contemporary political landscape of eunuchs'power manipulation,partisan struggle,and local separatist forces,which is of great significance for the research of the history of the Middle and Late Tang Dynasty.
