The Jiangliu site in Jingyang,Shaanxi,is a Late Yangshao era settlement. In 2021,the Shaanxi Academy of Archaeology conducted a rescue excavation at the site, yielding significant volume of artifacts.Among all discovered features,bag-shaped subterranean pits are the particularly noteworthy ones. This study presents the classification, identification, and statistical analyses of archaeobotanical samples obtained through flotation from Jiangliu. It was found that carbonized agricultural crops were primarily composed of foxtail millet and broomcorn millet, with a small quantity of rice, along with the presence of weeds adapted to wetlands and saline-alkali soils. This paper analyzes the function and burial processes of the bag-shaped pits and discusses the feasibility and limitations of prehistoric rice cultivation in the Guanzhong region based on the types of associated agricultural weed remains, environmental conditions, and historical records.
