From September to December,2022,the Shaanxi Academy of Archaeology collaborated with other institutes to conduct a salvage excavation of the Houliujiata cemetery at the Zhaigou Site,Qingjian County and identified four elite tombs of the Shang period.Although all tombs were looted,a large number of artifacts were still unearthed,among which chariots and horse fittings were the main category.In addition,remains of buried chariots were also found inside the tomb chamber.Many funeral objects are similar to those owned by high-ranking classes in Yinxu,showing a strong influence from Yinxu with regard the practice of the using of high prestige objects.This phenomenon reflects the close economic and cultural exchanges between the Loess Highland and the Shang Dynasty and the strong influence of the Shang Dynasty on its surrounding regions.The cemetery includes the largest tomb of the Shang period that have been excavated in the Loess Highland,and it has been a crucial breakthrough in Shang archaeology in recent years.
