The Thing village cemetery was discovered by accident during a local infrastructure construction in April 2017.The Tibet Autonomous Regional Institute of Cultural Relics Conservation and several other cultural relics conservation institutes at the city and county levels carried out a joint rescue archaeological excavation of two stone cist burials exposed by construction works. The two burials are structurally intact and well preserved. The square stone cists that were built by stone slabs are also rarely seen in Tibet.Large amounts of burial goods were found, including pottery, bronze tools, stone tools, beads, and so on.The cemetery at the Thing village dated to about 3000 BP based on radio-carbon dating results. Its discovery provides important information for studying the late Neolithic archaeological culture in this area.
