Located at Huancaigou in Hami,Xinjiang, the memorial stele of Tao Shijun, the governor of Liangzhou,is a newly discovered stele of the Han Dynasty and provides important inscription information. It is also the fifth Han-Dynasty stele that has been found in Xinjiang. Its content is primarily about Tao Hong,a prefectural governor of Liangzhou during the Eastern Han Dynasty who has not been indicated in official texts.Due to its long history, the rock surface has been seriously weathered and peeled off, resulting in the unrecognizability of many characters. However, with the help of computer image processing,we can still recognize part of the inscriptions.Functionally, this stele is the same as the memorial stele of Pei Cen,the governor of Dunhuang, for the acknowledgement of tomb occupant's merits and virtue. The stele was probably made and built during the fourth garrison of the Han Dynasty in Yiwu.
