The state or clan referred to as'Zhou'in the oracle bones of the Shang Dynasty predates the historical event of'Taiwang relocated to Qi',indicating that this Zhou clan is unrelated to the Zhou community with the Ji surname.Recent studies of Western Zhou Dynasty bronze inscriptions suggest that this'Zhou'clan probably refers to the Yun Zhou, one of the sub-linages of a large clan'(田)',whose influence extended mainly across the Shanxi and Shaanxi. The place name'Qiazhou',found in the newly discovered bronze inscriptions of Taibao gui vessel,is interpreted as a compound place name, denoting a location called'Zhou'in the Qia River basin. This place is identified as Heyang in Shaanxi Province, believed to be the habitus of the Yun Zhou.
