Abstract
The 31 musical figurines unearthed from M63 in Buli cemetery,Xianyang,Shaanxi Province, can be divided into two categories:figurines who play instruments and posture figurines. The musical instruments played by the figurines can be divided into three categories:blowing, playing and percussion. The posture figurines are all in the form of special gestures, accompanied by the characteristics of mouth opening, and assume the roles and functions of high-fives,leading(or singing),speaking, singing, and action performance in the performance scene. It is speculated that the performance form reflected by these musical figurines may be related to'Qing yue',and had an impact on the development of music in the Sui and Tang Dynasties. The rich musical instruments in Buli M63,unique performance forms and relatively complete performance scenes provide important materials for the study of musical development and social life during the fourth to fifth century.
