Excavations conducted in 1995 and 1998 at the Jiangjialiang site, located in Xishuidi Village,Dongcheng Town,Yangyuan County,Zhangjiakou City,Hebei Province, revealed 14 semi-subterranean house remains. These house remains were found beneath tombs, with 9 houses located in Area Ⅰ and 5 in Area Ⅱ.No stratigraphic relationships were observed between the houses.Based on the excavated artifacts, dating data, and stratigraphic relationships with the tombs,it is evident that the houses date to the Middle Neolithic period, significantly earlier than the tombs. The tombs and houses represent distinct cultural contexts, belonging to two separate archaeological cultures. These discoveries fill a critical gap in the study of ancient human settlements in the Sanggan River Basin prior to the Yangshao period and provide valuable new materials for understanding the survival strategies, cultural interactions, and exchanges of ancient inhabitants in this region.
