The Stabilizing Employment Effect of Digital Trade:Evidence from a Comprehensive Cross-border E-commerce Pilot Zone
With the acceleration of economic development and digitalization,cross-border e-commerce,as an important form of digital trade,has become a new engine of China's economic growth,with far-reaching impacts on China's employment market.This paper selects A-share listed companies as a sample to study the impact of the establishment of comprehensive experimental zones for cross-border e-commerce on the scale of employment of the corporate labor force from 2012 to 2021.The research results show:①The implementation of the cross-border e-commerce comprehensive experimental zone policy has a significant positive impact on the scale of enterprise employment;② The policy affects the scale of enterprise labor force employment through the"market scale expansion effect"and"digital demonstration effect";③The employment scale expansion effect of the cross-border e-commerce policy is different for different enterprise ownership,enterprise high-tech level and city size.Specifically,the employment scale expansion effect of the policy is more significant for non-state-owned enterprises,high-tech enterprises and enterprises located in large cities.The findings of this paper provide useful policy references on utilizing comprehensive cross-border e-commerce pilot zones to promote employ-ment.
