Current Status of CCS International Standardization Activities and its Suggestions for China
As one of major options of CO2 emission reduction, carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology is the focus of attention over the international society. The paper mainly describes the CCS standardization progress that the international standard organization (ISO) conducts, and compares CCS R&D activities and demonstration projects between the major developed countries and China. It is thought that the developed countries have relatively abundant practical experience in developing the CCS international standards.Britain and other European countries have some basis in the CCS policy support, basic application development and national-condition investigation.Canada poses the extensive advantage of governing the full scale CCS demonstration projects, while the United States shows more experience in CO2-EOR and in dealing wlth the cooperation relations of developing the projects between the nation and the locals. The two countries (Canada and the United States) have also jointly issued the world' s first CCS national standard, which is of obvious advantage in attending the work of ISO.China has the foundation in CCS research and development to the extent, but relatively weak in development of CCS demonstration project and standardization work, and therefore it is necessary to accelerate the systematical deployment toward CCS standardization work in order to meet the need of the ISO as soon as possible.
