Business Model Innovation and Strategic Flexibility in Technology Startups:Multi-case Analysis Based on Entrepreneurial Adjustment Actions
Three technology-based startups were selected as research objects, and the theoretical model between them was constructed based on the logic of"entrepreneurial adjustment actions → business model innovation → strategic flexibility"using the inductive cross-case study method that combines cross-sectional comparisons and longitudinal analyses. The study shows that:entrepreneurs use a combination of entrepreneurial adjustment actions to help improve the effectiveness of the feasible business model of startups;startups adopt different business model innovation strategies under different levels of environmental dynamics and different roles;when the environment in which startups are located becomes more and more dynamic, and the role they play in the industry transforms from reactive adaptation to proactive influence, the focus of business model innovation will change from enhancing reactive strategic flexibility to enhancing strategic flexibility. As the environment becomes more dynamic and the role of the startup changes from reactive adaptation to proactive influence, the focus of business model innovation gradually changes from enhancing reactive strategic flexibility to enhancing forward-looking strategic flexibility.
