Organized Transformation System of Scientific and Technological Achievements in Research-oriented Universities:Case Study Based on MIT and Columbia University
In order to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements by research universities more efficiently and effectively, and to better support the innovation-driven development strategy, this paper draws on the organized innovation theory and the triple helix theory and provides empirical insights for enhancing the construction of an organized scientific and technological achievements transformation system in research-oriented universities. This is accomplished through a comparative case study of MIT and Columbia University, focusing on institutional construction and input factors. The results indicate that at the institutional level, there is a need to promote the professional transformation and upgrading of technology transfer offices in research universities.Additionally, there should be a focus on strengthening the construction of proof-of-concept centers and academic entrepreneurship support. At the factor level, there is a need to increase investment in factors for the weak links of research universities. This includes strengthening the team building of engineers and technology brokers, improving industry-university-research cooperation platforms, and expanding the supply of application scenarios.
