Key Factors Influencing the Output of Basic Research Achievements in Universities:Based on the Empirical Analysis of Guangzhou Universities
In order to continuously improve the strength of basic research in colleges and universities, strengthen the role of the main force of basic research in colleges and universities and the source of major scientific and technological breakthroughs, based on the annual report of science and technology statistics of ordinary colleges and universities in China, taking relevant panel data of 65 universities of science, technology, agriculture and medicine and their affiliated hospitals in Guangzhou from 2018 to 2020,this paper discusses three aspects of high-level scientific research talents, basic research project funds, and international cooperation, considering the three heterogeneity characteristics of university type, university scale and per capita R&D expenditure of university, the panel regression model and iterative generalized least squares regression model are used to analyze the key factors affecting the output of university's basic research. The results show that the number and proportion of high-level teachers under 45 years old with doctorate degree, funding amount from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the number of participants in international conferences and cooperative research assignments with foreign countries have a significant positive effect on the output of high-quality basic research in universities. Therefore, the author puts forward countermeasures and suggestions such as carrying out the training and introduction of high-level talents accurately, improving the core competitiveness of university basic research;enhancing the funding mode of the National Natural Science Foundation, and promoting the high-quality development of university basic research;strengthening the international cooperation of basic research, enhancing the international competitiveness and influence of university basic research.
