The Influence of Enterprise Internationalization on Innovation Performance Effect:Based on the Mediating Effect of Knowledge Search and the Moderating Effect of Home Country Market Competition
At present,it is necessary to further clarify through which organizational learning mechanism internationalization contributes to innovation performance,as well as the external situation conditions that internationalization affects innovation performance.Based on the organizational learning theory and the knowledge-based view, this paper introduces dual knowledge search(including local search and cross-border search)as the intermediary variable, the degree of competition in the home country market as the regulatory variable, constructs the theoretical logic of degree of internationalization-knowledge search-innovation performance, and empirically examines the impact of internationalization on innovation performance,as well as the mediating and moderating roles of knowledge search and the degree of competition in the home country market, with a sample of 977 manufacturing companies listed on the A-share market in China from 2002 to 2020.The results show that the degree of internationalization has an inverted U-shaped effect on innovation performance, also has a significant positive effect on both local search and boundary-spanning search;local search has a positive effect on innovation performance, but boundary-spanning search has an inverted U-shape effect on innovation performance, and when boundary-spanning search reaches 199.29,enterprises continue to expand their knowledge boundaries, which negatively affects innovation performance, while boundary-spanning search reaches 199.29,enterprises continue to expand their knowledge boundaries will negatively affect innovation performance, and the knowledge search plays an effective mediating role between the degree of internationalization and innovation performance;besides, the degree of competition in the home market plays a positive moderating role between the degree of internationalization and knowledge search.Based on the above results,it is suggested that enterprises use various management incentives to continuously reduce knowledge transfer costs and promote knowledge search, while adjusting their search strategies according to changes in the intensity of market competition, and carrying out timely knowledge creation and reorganization in order to improve innovation performance.
