Research on the Mechanism of Embeddedness Relationship on Patent Transfer of Universities Under the Perspective of Transaction Costs
Currently, the majority of university patents pending transfer are independently applied for by universities rather than through university-enterprise collaboration.Exploring the implicit patterns behind the transfer of such patents and analyzing their mechanisms from an economic perspective holds positive significance for activating university patent resources.Based on transaction cost theory, this paper examines the mechanisms from two evaluative dimensions:network embeddedness and social embeddedness, selecting rigid prior cooperation indicators and flexible disciplinary soft power indicators.Using transferred patents independently applied for by Chinese universities in the fields of fuel cells and anti-tumor drugs as data samples, this study conducts an in-depth investigation of the mechanisms of embedded relationships. The results show that university-enterprise embedded relationships play a decisive role in breaking information asymmetry and reducing transaction costs. Therefore, universities should fully utilize embedded relationships to remove barriers in the patent transfer process and promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into real productive forces.
