Adopting descriptive and interpretive approaches,and from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives,the paper aims to have a contrastive study and also a relevant theoretical analysis on traditional Chinese and western agricultural terminologies.Due to the objective commonalities between traditional Chinese and western agriculture in terms of agricultural activities and development sta-ges,as well as the exchange of agricultural cultures between China and the west,there are certain similarities between traditional Chi-nese and western agricultural terminologies,but the differences are more significant.Based on comparing the two from the dimensions of terminological ontology,conceptual interpretation,and qualitative representation,we restore the historical context,conduct an ex-planatory discussion on the reasons for the emergence of the relevant differences,and summarize their revelation for the present.
