Our Lagrangian Formulation:An Initial Exploration of Linguistic Theory Integration
The development of various disciplines generally goes through several stages. From the initial stage of summarizing laws on the basis of phenomenal observation,to the middle stage of constructing theories from multiple perspectives,to the later stage of theory integration.Eventually, after further abstraction,a number of parameters are generated within a discipline that cut across different schools of theory. The most typical of these are the often-mentioned Lagrangian formulation in mathematics and physics.Based on these parameters, various theories eventually move towards integration.Modern linguistics has developed over a hundred years and constructed several theoretical schools on the basis of sorting out a large number of linguistic facts. However,we are always faced with the question of where the breakthrough for the integration of linguistic theories lies, and whether such parameters as Lagrangian formulation also exists within the discipline of linguistics.Taking the latest theories in formal linguistics, functional linguistics and cognitive linguistics as entry points, this study tries to propose a set of general parameters in linguistic research, and explores the possible paths to integrate linguistic theories across various schools of thought.
