The vertical changes of thecranialmaxillofacial complex is usually defined by the sagittal rotation of mandible, which however neglects the vertical rotation of the maxilla.Hence the influences of the rotation of the palate plane is underexamined in existing literature. Both sex and oral habits have significant influence on the change of the palatal plane cant.Maxillary sutures'distribution, growth potential, the size and direction of orthodontic force and its position relative to the center of resistance of maxilla may be the potential influencing factors during the treatment. As palate plane rotation also affects maxillofacial structures, changes of its inclination should also be considered when formulating clinical treatment plans. This review addresses the influencing factors and the possible mechanism of palate plane inclination, contributing to further research on palate plane rotation.
