The Malaysian University English Test(MUET)is the English language test for students applying to be admitted into universities.It shares similarities to China's National Matriculation English Test in terms of its purpose and function.Exploration into MUET designing concept,examination mode and task characteristics can provide implications to the current China's National Matriculation English Test reforms.This article investigates the test mode and task characteristics of MUET,pointing out its advantages such as comprehensive assessment,realistic situations,scientific evaluation and flexible management.However,its shortcomings include closed question tasks and excessive reminding information.Based on these findings,this article puts forward suggestion on China's National Matriculation English Test reforms in terms of its testing concept,exam management,task designing and grade reporting.
