Since the Qing Dynasty,the majority of scholars have held a critical stance towards Ming Dynasty exam-oriented Confucian scholarship,often juxtaposing it against traditional Confucian studies.However,as products of the interplay between the institutional and cultural dynamics of the Ming era,these exam-oriented texts possess their own inherent reasons and values.By analyzing the Ming Dynasty's examination system,societal trends,and the mindset of the literati,this paper provides a comprehensive and dialectical re-evaluation of their characteristics and significance.Although these works diverged from the traditional paths of Confucian scholarship,they fulfilled a practical role that was essential in Ming society.Furthermore,they contributed uniquely to the dissemination and popularization of Confucian learning during the Ming Dynasty.
