A study on the change of maceral components in the natural graphitization process of coal
The coal-based natural graphite is an important coal-based mineral resource that needs to be developed and utilized urgently. However, the lack of research on the differential graphitization of different maceral components in the mineralization process has hindered its development and utilization. In this paper,we have constructed the complete graphite metamorphic gradient sequence based on the study of selected representative coal-based natural graphite deposits in China.By using the scanning electron microscope, polarized and reflective microscope, and Raman spectroscopy,we have studied the micro-petrological and Raman spectroscopic changes of different macerals in the natural graphitization process. The results show that the macerals of coal-based natural graphite include primary macerals, transient micro-components,and graphite microcrystals. The primary macerals include vitrinite and inertinite, with no liptinite. The transient micro-components include thermoplastic vitrinite, mosaic components,liquid-phase crystalline carbon, and pyrolytic carbon.Graphite microcrystals include matrix graphite, flake graphite, and compact crystalline graphite aggregates.Different graphitization mechanisms include solid-phase graphitization,liquid-phase graphitization, and gas-phase graphitization.
