The evaluation for parameters of shale reservoir within the Lower Cambrian Shuijingtuo Formation in the Yichang area of the western Hubei based on the stratigraphic element logging
The shale of the Lower Cambrian Shuijingtuo Formation in the Yichang area of the western Hubei is one of key layers for the shale gas exploration in South China in recent years. In order to solve the constraint of relatively limited laboratory testing data of the shale reservoir,in this study,we have established a set of methods for interpreting parameters of the shale reservoir in the Lower Cambrian Shuijingtuo Formation in the Yichang area of the western Hubei based on the stratigraphic element logging data, thereby to provide a basis for the reservoir evaluation.Based on stratigraphic element logging data and laboratory testing X-ray diffraction data,we have established an interpretation model of the stratigraphic element logging data for classifying mineral composition types and contents of the reservoir. The deviation analysis results show that there are good correlations between interpreted mineral contents of the rock and tested mineral contents of the core(with R of 0.7813 for clay minerals,R of 0.7859 for carbonate minerals, and R of 0.738 for siliceous minerals). The interpreted mineral content by using the stratigraphic element logging data has relatively high accuracy.Based on the interpretation of mineral compositions, the classification of types of lithofacies in the Shuijingtuo Formation has been carried out.Overall, there is a good correlation between the change of lithofacies associations and that of relative sea level. The type of shale with high carbonate content was formed in a relatively shallow water environment.Using the interpretation model of mineral compositions,we have established a method for calculating the brittle mineral component index of shale in the Shuijingtuo Formation, and have comprehensively evaluated the brittleness of shale in the Shuijingtuo Formation. The comprehensively evaluated results are consistent with the evaluation results of shale brittleness by using elastic parameters.Overall, the interpreted mineral composition results based on the stratigraphic element logging interpretation model can provide reference for the lithofacies classification, reservoir dessert identification, and fracturing section selection of the shale reservoir within the Lower Cambrian Shuijingtuo Formation in the Yichang area.It has good guiding significance for the evaluation, exploration, and development of reservoirs in the region.
