Study on the sediment quality criteria and ecological risk assessment of selenium in the Yellow River Estuary
To effectively protect the water environmental quality and water ecological health of the Yellow River Estuary, and to provide data support and scientific basis for environmental management and risk assessment of selenium(Se),this study was conducted to derive the sediment quality criteria(SQC)for Se by using the tissue based criteria(TBC)method combined with the equilibrium partitioning approach(EqPA),and to assess the ecological risk level of Se in the sediment of the Yellow River estuary basin. This study measured the Se content of surface sediments and their pore water at eight sampling sites in the Yellow River estuary. The results showed that the concentration of Se in sediments ranged from 2.13 to 3.41 mg/kg,with an average of 2.95 mg/kg;the distribution coefficient of Se between the solid phase and the aqueous phase was 2757 L/kg,and the SQC value of Se was 0.80 mg/kg.The results indicated that the ecological risk level of Se in sediments of the Yellow River Estuary is high, which may have harmful effects on the water ecosystem and requires further research.
