Mass-independent fractionation of oxygen and sulfur isotopes
Measurements of chemically induced mass-independent isotope fractionation(MIF)signatures in natural samples have been leading to many new findings in a wide range of research areas including Earth and planetary sciences, environmental sciences, and ecology. Here,I briefly introduce the history of this research field with a focus on multiple oxygen and sulfur isotopes.I critically review and discuss our current understanding of the fundamental MIF theory and MIF signatures in both terrestrial and extraterrestrial systems. This review aims to provide an introductory reference for students and early-career scientists interested in this field.
