Kiev School and the Rise of the Soviet Philosophy of Science
The"Kiev School"is a school of philosophy of science founded in Ukraine by Kopnin,a corresponding academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.It is one of the symbols of the rise of philosophy of science in the USSR from the 1960s to the 1970s.Kopnin is a staunch epistemologist. He opposed talking about the law of ex-istence of the objective world without human cognition and insisted that Marxist philosophy was epistemology. He launched an"epistemological revolution"in Soviet philosophy.Kopnin and the"Kiev School"led by him advoca-ted that the basis of philosophy of science should be dialectics as epistemology and logic. He focused on analyzing the actual process of scientific cognition and summarizing the experience of scientific cognition, which created the research tradition of"the logic of scientific research"in Soviet philosophy. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, although the"Kiev School"has gradually declined and deviated from the track of scientific philosophy, the sudden emergence of philosophical anthropology and cultural philosophy in Ukraine indicates that the contemporary"Kiev School"has formed a new humanistic philosophical tradition.
