Can Mobile Robots Perceive?——Comparative Analysis with Animal Perception According to the Parallel Channel Theory of Sensation and Perception
Episodic memory is a kind of long-term memory which is different from semantic memory.Animals with central nervous system such as birds and mammals(higher animals)interact with the environment through percep-tion,form and enjoy episodic memory in the process of survival and reproduction.Mobile robots can also build and implement"episodic memory models"through mathematical modeling and external sensors.Humphrey split the functions of"sensation"and"perception"through"parallel channel theory of sensation and perception",provi-ding a basis for distinguishing"sensation"and"knowledge":animal perception includes both sensation and per-ception,i.e.,"knowledge comes from sensation,and perception is knowledge";The mobile robot captures and converts the signals of the external environment and its own state through sensors,and generates physical informa-tion about the external environment and information about its own state position.The whole realization process only has"perception"and no"feeling".It is not a"perception"function in the true sense.
