How to Go into Paradigm from Pre-Paradigm:Two Key Concepts of Machine Ethics
Machine ethics is an important branch of artificial intelligence ethics, but it is currently still in the pre-paradigmatic stage of the discipline.Different from computer ethics and robot ethics, the goal of machine ethics is to enable machines to perform moral actions on their own initiative. The reason why machine ethics is difficult to move from the pre-paradigmatic stage to the paradigmatic stage is determined by its goal, which makes it challeng-ing for the academic community to reach a consensus on its fundamental concepts.By examining the evolution his-tory of fundamental concepts of machine ethics in the last three decades,it is found that artificial moral agency and computable model of morality are the two most critical concepts. The clarification and in-depth study of these tow concepts can not only reveal the true difficulties faced by machine ethics, but also pave the necessary way for ma-chine ethics to evolve from the pre-paradigm to the paradigm.
