Parental Age in Relation to the Severity of Cleft Lip and/or Palate
To analyze the relationship between the incidence of cleft lip and cleft palate disease and the age of the parents.a Logistic regression analysis on 675 patients with non-syndromic cleft lip and palate who visited our hospital, including 404 cases of cleft lip with/without cleft palate(CL±P)and 271 cases of isolated cleft palate(CP)was conducted, and the parental reproductive age was recorded.According to the severity of the cleft,it was divided into two groups:cleft lip(palate)(CL±P)and cleft palate(CP).Unilateral fissure was divided into left fissure and right fissure.Research has found that in cleft lip(palate)(CL±P),when both parents are older, the risk of developing cleft lip(palate)(CL±P)in offspring is much higher than when both parents are younger. In cleft palate(CP),older parents are more likely to develop cleft palate than younger parents, but there is no statistical significance.Simultaneously analyze the relationship between parental age and left and right lateral fissure. It was found that the age of parents and the statistical significance of left and right lateral fissure were not significant.Analyses suggest that the risk of fathering an infant with cleft lip(palate)(CL±P)increases with advancing age.Additional analyses show that the risk was increased only when the age of both parents was high.
