Research on Influence Mechanism of Matching between Patent Capability and Patent Strategy on Patent Value:Based on Integration Theory of Competitive Advantage
How to increase the output of high-value patents in China's strategic emerging industries has become an important issue to effectively respond to international trade war by the intellectual property and achieve scientific and tech-nological self-reliance.If Chinese companies do not improve their patent capabilities,they will fall into a vicious circle of"only seeing quantity,not obtaining benefit".With the changes in the external environment and domestic policies,the patent strategy of local companies has changed from protecting independent innovation to self-reliance and self-improve-ment in science and technology.However,the bitter lessons of Chinese companies in fields such as communications and chips,that have been repeatedly hit by patents from multinational tech giants due to the lack of HVP,show that if the"ca-pability-strategy"mismatch happened in a certain company will lead to the dilemma of patent value formation.The exist-ing results are confused between the concepts of patent strategy and patent capability,resulting in a lack of sufficient rec-ognition of the matching relationship therebetween in practice.In view of the accelerated change of the global industrial structure,it is difficult for isolated exogenous or endogenous theories to guide companies to maintain competitive advan-tages,while the integration theory of competitive advantage shows higher theoretical value in the present due to the bal-ance of market strategy and resource capacity.Therefore,based on the integration theory of competitive advantage and the contingency theory,it is found that there is a matching relationship between the different patent capabilities and different patent strategies,and the patent value of companies is affected by the matching relationship,and then the core proposition of"matching affects value"is proposed in the micro research field of patent value.Further,the influence mechanism of the matching relationship between company's patent capabilities and patent strategy to its patent value is explored.An in-dependent sample t-test and multivariate level regression analysis were used for empirical testing.It is found that,from the perspective of scientific and technological self-reliance,aligning to the HVP cultivation demonstration projects current-ly carried out in developed regions in China,three types of patent strategies that can effectively enhance the competitive advantages of local companies are extracted,and heterogeneous patent capabilities required by different patent strategies are identified.The matching relationship between single-dimensional of patent capabilities and different patent strategies has a different impact on patent value,including:patent creation ability has a significant impact on the patent value of three types of patent strategy adopted by a certain company,patent protection ability has a significant impact on the patent value of market expansion and asset transformation adopted,and patent application ability has a significant impact on the patent value of asset transformation and technology self-control adopted.The matching relationship between multi-dimen-sional patent capabilities and different patent strategies has a differential impact on patent value,including:market expan-sion patent strategy matches patent creation ability and patent protection ability,asset transformation patent strategy matches patent creation ability,patent protection ability and patent application ability,and technology independent patent strategy matches patent creation ability and patent application ability.Referring to strategic emerging industries,there is an interactive relationship between the patent capabilities and the patent strategies in a certain company,and then it is found that the interaction therebetween has a positive impact on the patent value of companies,and a matching model between the two is built as a management starting point to guide local enterprises to enhance patent value.Based on the empirical results,this paper provides management enlightenment for companies implementing different patent strategies to improve patent capabilities.Companies in strategic emerging industries should rationally allocate resources and capabilities,adapt patent capabilities according to different patent strategies,and adopt heterogeneous patent capacity improvement measures in order to effectively increase patent value.Companies that adopt a market expansion strategy should focus on improving their patent creation and patent protection capabilities;Companies that adopt an asset transformation strategy should focus on improving their patent creation,patent protection and patent application capabilities;Companies that adopt a technolo-gy self-control strategy should focus on improving their ability to create and use patents.
