Stability analysis of typical high and steep slopes in open-pit mines
As the mining industry in China continues to develop, safety in production has become increasingly crucial.Particularly in open-pit mines, slope stability is a significant factor constraining the safety of mining operations. The rational determination of the safety factor for slope stability is essential to ensure the safe production of open-pit mines.Taking a granite mine in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as an example, this study aims to effectively assess slope stability and provide a scientific basis for safe mining operations.Four typical high and steep slopes were selected based on the regional division of engineering slope geology.First,on-site drilling and sampling were conducted, and the samples were processed into standard specimens for conducting physical and in-situ geotechnical tests to determine the basic physical parameters of the rock-soil mass, such as internal friction angle, cohesion, and unit weight.Subsequently, the joint distribution of the typical cross-sections was statistically described using stereographic projection, the failure modes of the slopes were qualitatively analyzed, and finally, the Bishop method and the Morgenstern-Price method were employed to calculate the safety factor of the two-dimensional slope profiles using the limit equilibrium method. The results indicate that the overall safety factors of the four typical design boundary profiles under three different conditions meet the specified requirements. The FLAC3D software was used to study the stability of a three-dimensional slope model using the strength reduction method to verify the slope stability. This approach more intuitively reflects the stress distribution and the ultimate displacement of the slope, effectively analyzing the slope stability and providing important references for safe mining operations.A series of engineering measures to ensure the safety and stability of the slopes were proposed based on the actual conditions of the mine. The research findings provide significant guidance for safe mining operations and offer valuable insights for similar mining projects.
