Shaping effect of root canal preparation with single ProTaper Sx in primary teeth:An in vitro study
Objective To compare the shaping effects of rotary instrument ProTaper Sx and stainless steel K-file for root canal preparation of primary teeth in vitro. Methods Isolated deciduous teeth were collected from Pediatric Dentistry,Stomatological Hospital,Xi'an Jiaotong University. After coronal cutting and root sepa-ration,the distal root canal, proximal root canal, anterior root canal, palatal root canal, proximal buccal root canal and distal buccal root canal were classified into 8 root canals of each type, with a total of 48.The root canal types were divided into two groups, the Sx group(n=24)and the K-file group(n=24),randomly.ProTaper Sx and K-files were used for root canal preparation.Micro-computed tomography scanning was performed on the total samples before and after preparation, and the minimum diameter and curvature of root canal before and after preparation were measured with the help of Mimics 10.01 and Adobe Photoshop CC software, and 3D images of the root canal system were reconstructed. The cutting site and root canal deviation were evaluated quantitatively by their changes. Results In the coronal, the minimum diameter of root canal in the Sx group was larger than in the K-file group, and in the middle and apical, the Sx group was smaller than the K-file group, the difference being statistically significant(P<0.05).The change in the root canal curvature of the K-file group was significantly greater than that of the Sx group, with the difference being statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Mechanical preparation area is mainly concentrated in the coronal and mid-dle of the root canal and the root canal deviation is small with ProTaper Sx.
