Bibliometric analysis of studies on the association of circulating tumor DNA with gastrointestinal malignancies
Objective Studies related to ctDNA and gastrointestinal malignancies were sorted out by biblio-metric analysis tools, and the current status of research, distribution of hotspots, and future trends in the field were discussed. Methods The Web of Science Core Collection(WOSCC)database was searched up to 17 November 2023.CiteSpace 6.2.R6,Scimago Graphica,VOSviewer 1.6.19,and R software(Bibliometrix package)were used for data analysis and visualization. Results The study included a total of 1326 articles and reviews in English, with a period of slow growth in research output from 1997-2014 and a rapid increase in the number of publications after 2014.The analysis of national(regional)and institutional collaborations showed that the United States and Western Europe were the global research centers in the field, and the Uni-versity of Texas,USA was the institution with the most number of publications. The scholar with the highest number of publications was Bardelli Alberto and the scholar with the highest number of citations was Chetan Bettegowda.Cancers was the journal with the highest number of articles. The field is showing a trend of muta-tion analysis towards clinical practice.Hot topics related to mutation analysis include microsatellite instability, promoter methylation,KRAS mutations, copy number aberrations, epidermal growth factor receptor, and in-tra-tumor heterogeneity. The hotspots of clinical application are related to diagnosis, efficacy monitoring, acquired drug resistance, recurrence risk, and monitoring of minimal residual disease. Conclusion Research in this field is in the ascendant, showing a trend from whole genome sequencing to precise targeted sequencing, combining sequence analysis with clinical practice.
