Objective To investigate the effect of modified tarsal sinus approach plate fixation of calcaneal fractures. Methods The 60 patients with calcaneal fractures were divided into minimally invasive group(modified tarsal sinus incision approach with plate fixation,30 cases)and conventional group(lateral L-shaped incision approach with plate fixation,30 cases),according to different incision approaches.Perioperative indicators, postoperative complications, imaging indexes(calcaneal width, height,Gissane angle,Böhler angle),the range of motion of ankle(plantar flexion and dorsiflexion)were recorded.Foot function was evaluated using MaryLand scores. Results All patients were fol-lowed up for 6~12(8.5±2.1)months.The preoperative preparation time, surgical time, postoperative drainage vol-ume,incision healing time, and postoperative hospitalization time in the minimally invasive group were all shorter(less)than those in the conventional group(P<0.05);there was no statistical difference in fracture healing time be-tween the two groups(P>0.05).The incidence rate of postoperative complications in the minimally invasive group was lower than in the conventional group(P<0.05).Imaging indexes:the postoperative results of the two groups were better than those before surgery(P<0.05),and there was no statistical difference between the two groups after sur-gery(P>0.05).The range of motion of ankle at 6 months after surgery:there was no statistical difference between the affected side and the healthy side between the two groups(P>0.05);there was no statistical difference between the two groups(P>0.05).At 6 months after surgery, there was no statistical difference in the excellent-good rate of foot function evaluated by MaryLand score(P>0.05).Conclusions Compared with L-shaped lateral calcaneal incision plate internal fixation, modified tarsal sinus incision plate internal fixation in the treatment of calcaneal fracture can not only achieve the same surgical effect, but also has the advantages of shorter preoperative preparation time and op-eration time, less postoperative bleeding, shorter postoperative hospital stay time and fewer complications.
