Objective To investigate the efficacy of locking plate for treatment of proximal humeral fracture in mid-dle-aged and elderly patients. Methods The locking plate was used to treat 46 middle-aged and elderly patients with proximal humeral fractures.Fracture reduction, fracture healing time, shoulder range of motion were recorded.Shoulder function was evaluated using the Neer scores. Results All patients were followed up for 6~12 months.Postoperative X-rays film showed 43 cases of anatomic reduction and 3 cases of functional reduction. All 43 fractures healed normal-ly,and the time was 3~6 months.Three cases had delayed healing due to without anatomical reduction during opera-tion,and the fracture healing time was 6~12 months. At the last follow-up,the range of motion of the shoulder joint:anterior flexion was 70°~85°,posterior extension was 35°~40°,internal rotation 70°~85°,external rotation 40°~50°;Neer score was used to evaluate shoulder joint function:31 cases were excellent,9 cases were good,3 cases were good,3 cases were poor, and the excellent-good rate was 86.96%.Conclusions The use of locking plate to treat proximal humeral fracture in middle-aged and elderly patients is simple to operate, reliable fixation, and patients can do early functional exercise, which is conducive to restore shoulder joint function.
