Objective To compare the clinical effects of the dorsal branch-chain flaps of proximal or middle segment digital artery in repairing fingertip defects. Methods Forty-six patients with fingertip defects were divided into proxi-mal segment donor site group(24 cases were repaired with dorsal branch-chain flaps of proximal segment digital arter-y)and middle segment donor site group(22 cases were repaired with dorsal branch-chain flaps of middle segment dig-ital artery),according to the flaps location. The flexion range of motion of injured finger joint, static and dynamic two-point discrimination, cold intolerance severity score, monofilament test and pain VAS were compared between the two groups. Results All patients were followed up for 12~20 months. All flaps and skin grafts survived in the two groups, and the donor sites healed in one-stage.There was no obvious redundancy, retraction, pigmentation of the flaps, and the texture was good.At last follow-up,there were no statistical differences in flexion range of motion of in-jured finger joint and cold intolerance severity score between the two groups(P>0.05).The static and dynamic two-point discrimination and monofilament test in the middle segment donor site group were all lower than those in the proximal segment donor site group(P<0.05).The pain VAS in the middle segment donor site group was lower than that in the proximal segment donor site group(P<0.05).Conclusions Compared with the proximal segment donor site, the dorsal branch-chain flaps of middle segment digital artery can repair the fingertip defect, and the sensory function of fingertip is better.
